8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 ESV
The Acts 1:8 Team is dedicated to strategic planning of missional engagement for Covenant Baptist Church. The Acts 1:8 Team exists to plan, coordinate, and involve the entire church in gospel mission by witnessing, giving, going, and sending. The strategy includes local, regional, cross-social, and international missions inspired by Jesus’ words in Acts 1:8 to the church just prior to His ascension. After the promise of sending the Holy Spirit, Jesus charges the church saying: “…’ and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth’” (Acts 1:8b). The Acts 1:8 Team adopted this model as its mission focus for Valdosta (Jerusalem), our region (Judea), and around the globe (remotest part of the earth). The Acts 1:8 team understood “Samaria” not as a geographic intent, but for targeting cross-social opportunities; that is, crossing beyond demographic and social barriers of our cultural for the gospel. In other words, just as Jewish-Christians demonstrated God’s love by carrying the gospel to Samaritans and overcoming cultural racism, so Jesus calls the church to carry the gospel message across social and culture boundaries for the love of Christ and all neighbors. In our day of racism, sexual confusion, lifestyle choices, and identity crises, the church must be passionately vigilant to take the gospel to all persons made in the image of God. The Acts 1:8 Team exists to assess these regions, examine the opportunities, and develop a strategy for mobilizing our church to witness, give, and send strategically for the gospel, kingdom, and glory of God in Jesus Christ.
